Zags take on Portland State in Phil Knight Legacy Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. — Thanksgiving will end with your Gonzaga Bulldogs playing hoops.

The Zags are taking on the Portland State Vikings in the first round of the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament in Portland, Oregon. The two teams haven’t met each other since 2008, with the Zags leading the series 19-7.

The Bulldogs are coming off one of its biggest wins in regular-season program history, beating then No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats in the Spokane Arena. Rasir Bolton, Drew Timme and Julian Strawther led the way, scoring 24, 22 and 20 points respectively, with Strawther adding 14 rebounds to his statline. Anton Watson also scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Zahs will have a worthy opponent in the Portland State Vikings. After losing their last couple of games, they beat Pac-12 and NCAA Tournament team Oregon State, their first win against the Beavers. The Big Sky team is led by Jorell Saterfield and Hunter Woods, who lead the team in points and rebounds respectively (17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds). Cameron Parker and Isiah Kirby are two other guys to look out for.

If the Zags win Thursday night, they will play either Purdue or West Virginia in the semifinal round of the tournament.

Tipoff between the No. 6 Zags and Vikings is at 9:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.
