The start of Gonzaga men’s basketball season is just days away and Zag fans need to keep their eyes on Filip Petrusev.

On Monday, sports analyst Andy Katz released his list off 11 breakout players to watch this season and said Petrusev is the guy to watch.

“Petrusev didn’t need to be more than a role player last season. But he will be counted on to produce as a sophomore. And he’s already proven he can deliver on the international stage,” Katz said.

Katz pointed to Petrusev’s performance with the Serbian team in the U19 FIBA Championships. The Serbian native averaged 19.3 points and shot 66 perfect per game. Katz said he had three double-doubles in the tournament, too.

“He’s one of the main reasons why there is a sense the Zags will once again be a top-15 team,” Katz said.

The latest AP Top 25 Poll has the Zags ranked eighth. The next poll is set to be released later Monday morning.
