Young Spokane man falls to his death in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness
KITTITAS CO., Wash. — A Spokane man fell to his death in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Kittitas County over the weekend.
The body of 19-year-old Sean Mortensen was found in the Three Queens area on Sunday morning.
Mortensen and his friends had gone hiking to Spectacle Lake, and on Friday morning, he announced that he was going for a two-hour day hike to the Three Queens area. After nearly seven hours, he had not returned, and his friends searched the area for him.
By morning, Mortensen had still not returned, so his friends got help from the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue crews.
Rescue crews mobilized at around 8 p.m. with the help of Naval Air Station Whidbey. The search was unsuccessful due to the darkness and rugged terrain.
On Sunday morning, crews resumed the search, where they found Mortensen at the base of a slope in the Three Queens area.
The Sheriff’s Office extends their deepest condolences to Mortensen’s friends and family.
