WSU professor says she was on the phone with her daughter when she was killed
PULLMAN, Wash. — Jill McCluskey, an Economics Professor at Washington State University, has released a statement on the death of her daughter. Lauren McCluskey, 21, was shot and killed at the University of Utah Monday night, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend.
“Lauren previously dated her killer for about one month,” Jill wrote. “He lied to her about his name, his age, and his criminal history.” When Lauren found out about his past, according to Jill, she ended the relationship. Read more information on the shooting here.

Lauren McCluskey graduated Pullman High School in 2015. She was described as an exceptional student and a stand out on both the Pullman and Utah track and field teams.
The PAC-12 has also released a statement on the death of one of its student-athletes.
The suspect in McCluskey’s murder, 37-year-old Melvin Rowland, was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
