WSP troopers arrest hit-and-run driver
SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a hit-and-run driver Thursday night in the 4800 block of N. Post Street.
Troopers attempted to stop a car that was driving without its headlights on around 10:15 p.m. Thursday night near Division and Wellesley. The driver of the car, Steven L. McKinnis, didn’t stop, and traveled westbound on Rowan Avenue, running the stop sign at Monroe Street.
McKinnis struck a Ford Explorer that was traveling southbound on the driver’s side door. The driver of the Ford Explorer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
After the crash, McKinnis got of out of his car and ran on foot. A Spokane Police K9 Unit arrived and began tracking McKinnis. During the track, police received a call from residents at a home in the 4800 block of N. Post Street, saying someone had broken into their home. Police found McKinnis at the address and took him into custody.
McKinnis was booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony hit-and-run, felony eluding, and DUI.
WSP detectives have taken over the investigation. Additional charges are expected, including possession of a controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm.
