WSP arrested more drunk drivers Hoopfest weekend than any other weekend this year

SPOKANE, Wash – Troopers and police in the Spokane area processed more suspected drunk drivers during Hoopfest weekend than any other weekend of the year.

WSP brought its mobile DUI unit to town, as Spokane welcomed thousands of people to the event.

WSP Trooper Ryan Senger said 33 drivers were processed as part of an emphasis patrol that included troopers, Spokane Police, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Airway Heights Police and the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office.

Trooper Senger said it’s the most impaired-driving arrests WSP has done in one weekend so far this year.

Senger called it “a much greater percentage than a typical weekend” and that he personally made four DUI arrests Saturday night.

“We are impressed with the effort and collaboration this weekend,” Trooper Senger said. “No doubt [it] saved lives.”
