WSDOT hopes to improve safety on Hwy 195 with J-turn
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation is building a J-turn, also known as a Michigan left turn, on Highway 195.
The decision was made in an effort to improve safety on 195 and Thorpe, where an accident four years ago killed three women trying to cross the busy intersection.
Construction started Monday and is expected to go through the summer. Once completed, drivers will no longer use the median to cross 195. Rather, there will be a lane that allows for a complete turn of direction.
