#happylife: Women’s self defense classes return next month

NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is holding its next Women’s Self Defense class on Saturday, March 7.

Every month, they hold a class of about 25-30 women to give them the tools to be aware, avoid and if needed, attack to defend themselves.

This includes teaching proper distancing from strangers, how to keep eyes up and aware at all times and how to defend yourself in specific scenarios.

The class’ Defensive Tactics instructor, Deputy Wade Nelson, said there are techniques you can learn and use in your day-to-day life.

“It’s a great mother-daughter thing to do together. Because it’s a good way for you guys to bond doing something kind of fun, but also very important in your life as well,” he said.

The class is from 8 a.m. to noon at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Training Center at 6011 N Chase Rd. in Newman Lake.

Women who attend must be 14 and older.

Register by emailing SCSOtraining@spokanesheriff.org.

The class fee is $40.
