Women can learn the basics of self defense with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is offering Introduction to Women’s Self-Defense classes on May 19 at their training center in Newman Lake. While the class does include a hands-on component, the class largely focuses on staying safe, by teaching women tactics including deterrents, avoidance and detection of a personal attack.

The class is open to women ages 14 and older and is $35. The morning session will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. The afternoon class is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you have questions about signing up, you can reach the coordinator at 509-477-4793. If you would like to register, send an email with the names of all who will be attending and their emails to SCSOTraining@spokanesheriff.org. Please note, the classes do fill up quickly. If you are unable to register for these classes, the Sheriff’s Office offers them each month.
