Woman seriously injured after shooting near Garfield Elementary

One man is under arrest after a fight led to a shooting that seriously injured a woman Thursday night in North Spokane.

According to Spokane Police, a fight broke out of a home on North Calispel Street near W. Jackson Avenue between 32-year-old Jeremy Mallgren and a man in a white SUV parked outside Mallgren’s home.

Police say that around 7:30 p.m. Mallgren had gone out to investigate the white SUV, which he deemed to be suspicious. A 29-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were inside that vehicle.

Mallgren got into an argument with the man, which turned into a physical fight. Police say at some point, Mallgren retrieved a rifle and fired at the SUV several times as it drove away from the scene.

Police found the man and woman inside the car about a block away. The woman had been shot several times in her torso. The man had minor injuries from the fight and wounds that could be the result of shrapnel.

Major Crimes Detectives interviewed several people before arresting Mallgren on two counts of 1st Degree Assault.

The woman is now listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
