Woman gives $1 million to Washington’s national parks
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s great outdoors held a special place in Bette Wallace’s heart, and her estate.
The Washington National Park Fund says her $1 million donation is the largest gift they’ve ever received. Wallace, who grew up in Washington and spent most of her married life in California, recently passed away.
Her million dollar gift will be split evenly between Mt. Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park, and North Cascades National Park.
Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park plan to combine their funds to buy a computer aided dispatch system which will keep track of park rangers working in the wilderness – improving overall safety.
North Cascades National Park plans to use the donation on infrastructure improvements for the hundreds of volunteers who serve the park, and its critters.
