Woman accused of kidnapping dealer during test drive pleads not guilty

A woman accused of kidnapping a car dealer while on a test drive pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

Kasandra Ayala, 32, was arrested and charged with kidnapping, taking a motor vehicle without permission and several counts of assault stemming from an incident on August 24.

According to Spokane Police, an employee at Dave Smith Nissan called police at 2 p.m., saying he was on a test drive with a couple and the driver refused to return the car or let him out of the vehicle. The employee stayed on the phone and continued to update police on the location of the car.

Officers located the car and tried to pull it over, but Ayala refused.

Ayala reportedly led police on a low-speed chase. Officers said they tried to block the car, but Ayala drove through and struck three patrol cars.

An officer ultimately stopped Ayala by striking the car with his patrol car.

Ayala and an officer both suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Three SPD black and whites, as well as the sergeant’s vehicle were damaged in the incident.
