Western States review group unanimously finds Pfizer COVID vaccine is safe, effective for 12-15 year-olds

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Western States vaccine review group, consisting of health experts from Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada, have unanimously found the Pfizer COVID vaccine is safe and effective for kids as young as 12-years-old.

On Monday, the FDA authorized the use of the vaccine in 12 to 15 year-olds, and the CDC’s Advisory Committee affirmed that decision on Wednesday. The Workgroup reviewed and affirmed the federal decisions Wednesday night.

“We are very pleased that teens can now be vaccinated. We have seen an increase in cases among this age group, and we can now make sure they are protected with the vaccine. This will further help us bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said.
