Washington State pulls off upset at #19 Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. — With six seconds left to play in the 4th quarter and facing 4th down, Quarterback Cam Ward rolled out to his right and threw the ball deep down field to run out the clock as Washington State pulled off the 17-14 upset victory over #19 Wisconsin.
The Cougs were down by seven points at halftime before scoring 10 unanswered points and beating the Badgers.
Not only was this a happy homecoming for Head Coach Jake Dickert who grew up in the state and would sneak into the Camp Randall Stadium as a kid to throw footballs, but also former Badger Nakia Watson. The running back finished with 11 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown, along with the go-ahead touchdown in the 3rd quarter on a pass from Ward.
One aspect of the game that helped the Cougs win on Saturday was the penalties. They only had five penalties for 50 yards, and the Badgers had 11 penalties for 106 yards.
With the win the Cougars improve to 2-0 on the season and will now return home to face Colorado State on Saturday afternoon.
