The courts were crowded for Hoopfest 2019.

Another Hoopfest is in the books and the Washington State Patrol was busy.

WSP joined local officers to monitor the event, using K9s, motorcycles and aircraft. They launched a statewide HiVE, or High Visibility Enforcement, emphasis patrol from the Cascades to Spokane. This greatly helped managed the spike in traffic along I-90 in the days leading up to Hoopfest.

Motorcycle troopers stopped over 600 speeding drivers, caught suspended driver’s licenses, and stopped six aggressive drivers. Law enforcement also arrested twenty drivers for DUI charges.

“I am very proud of everyone’s hard work and saw a lot of dedicated professionals committed to making people safe on our area’s roadways while also reducing the risk of crime,” said Captain Jeff Otis, Commander of WSP District 4.

Washington State Patrol troopers said they look forward to next year’s events in Spokane.
