Washington State Legislature considering multiple sports betting bills
OLYMPIA, Wash.— Two new bills in the Washington State Legislature aim to legalize Las Vegas-style sports betting at tribal casinos in the state.
HB 2638 currently sits with the House Commerce and Gambling Committee, while its companion bill, SB 6394, sits with the Senate Committee on Labor & Commerce. Both bills reinforce HB 1975, proposed last February.
Following a 2018 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, 20 states legalized sports betting, including Oregon and Montana.
If passed, the bills would legalize sports books at 29 tribal casinos in the state. The bills would not legalize sports betting at privately owned card rooms and casinos.
A public hearing for SB 6394 is scheduled for Thursday.
