Washington farmers giving away free potatoes to families in need

The Washington State Potato Commission is giving away bags of potatoes because its farmers have too many.

The closure of the food service industry has left farmers with an excess of spuds that they don’t need.

They’re donating those extra potatoes to families in need starting Wednesday at 9 a.m. next to Harvest Foods in Ritzville.

They’ll be back out at the same time on Thursday in Moses Lake at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

Both are drive-thru distributions.
