Villanova tops Texas Tech to earn a trip to the Final Four
Villanova is headed for the Final Four for the second time in three years and the sixth time in school history.
The top-seeded Wildcats beat No.3-seeded Texas Tech 71-59 in Boston to earn a trip to San Antonio, where they will meet the winner of Sunday’s Kansas-Duke matchup in Omaha.
Villanova started slowly, falling behind 9-1 before going on a 20-6 run. They outscored Texas Tech 36-16 in the last 17 minutes of the half and went to the locker room with a 36-23 lead.
The Red Raiders, behind freshman Jarrett Culver, chipped away slowly in the second half. They trailed by eight with 6:43 left. They got within five with 4:14 left when to senior point guard Keenan Evans made 2-of-three free throws after being fouled on a three-point shot.
But Villanova went on a 15-8 run to end the game. Jalen Brunson had 15 points for Wildcats, and Donte DiVincenzo and Mikal Bridges each had 12 points. Eric Paschall had career-high 14 rebounds to go with his 12 points..
On defense, the Wildcats had 31 of trheir 51 rebounds, as well as six steals.
