WALLACE, Idaho — Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred between Exit 62 and Exit 65 on I-90 in Shoshone County.

The driver of a 2021 Toyota van collided head-on with a pickup truck that was pulling an empty dump trailer. The impact caused both vehicles to become fully engulfed in flames, starting a fire on the roadside. The area of the crash was an active construction zone.

The van was occupied by a 72-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman passenger from North Dakota. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was airlifted to a local hospital. The driver of the pickup was also transported to a local hospital.

Traffic on I-90 was blocked in both directions for two hours on Thursday. The roadway in the area of the crash was severely damaged due to the fire that broke out on the roadside. Drivers should be prepared for extended delays in the area for repairs.

The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
