Upriver Beacon Fire evacuee: ‘We’re very blessed’
SPOKANE, Wash. — Of the three homes evacuated by fire crews fighting the Upriver Beacon Fire, the Zappone family owned two. Theresa and her husband have lived in theirs for 17 years, her son and his family building their house next door.
Theresa said she and her husband were on vacation in Montana when they received a call from their son Tuesday afternoon, saying they were evacuating their Thierman Road home and wanting to know what they should take with them. They immediately got in the car and raced back to Spokane, only to find part of their property completely destroyed.
Wednesday morning, they were still waiting to return to their home, but the dangers of falling power lines prevented them from doing so.
