UPDATE: Snoqualmie Pass remains closed, eastbound lanes will reopen at 4 pm
SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — UPDATE: At 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, officials said I-90 is still closed from North Bend to Ellensburg.
The westbound lanes will remain closed all day becuase of avalanche danger.
At 4:00 p.m., eastbound traffic will be metered at milepost 34, near North Bend. Traffic will be released in groups of several hundred vehicles with reduced speeds and 15 minutes of separation between groups.
If you’re heading east over the pass, expect long delays.
Heavy snow continued to fall on Snoqualmie Pass overnight and officials say they will reassess opening Interstate 90 at 9:00am Wednesday morning.
Right now the interstate is closed in both directions from milepost 34 near North Bend to milepost 106 near Ellensburg due to severe weather and avalanche danger.
Snow, drifting snow and avalanches are what officials are concerned about.
Yesterday, crews used explosives to set off multiple avalanches to creat a safe route through the mountains.
The forecast for the pass calls for partly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 20s to lower 30s.
