UPDATE: Driver arrested on DUI, other charges in deadly Highway 41 crash
SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho — UPDATE:
A search of the Kootenai county jail roster shows a Jonathan Albert Smith, presumably the same Jonathan A. Smith who was the driver of the truck that hit the motorcycle Wright was riding on, is in custody on several charges.
Smith was arrested at 11:35 p.m. on May 4th, for Aggravated DUI, Attempting to Destroy, Alter, Conceal Evidence, Open Container, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Vehicular Manslaughter.
A Newport woman was killed Friday night after being ejected from the back of the motorcycle on Idaho State Highway 41, just south of Spirit Lake.
48-year-old Alayna C. Wright was killed after being ejected from the back of a motorcycle she was a passenger on. The driver of that motorcycle, 49-year-old Mark J. Kondash, was traveling north on State Highway 41 near milepost 16 when a 1992 Dodge Dakota turned onto a side road in front of him.
Kondash’s bike hit the the side of the truck, ejecting both himself and Wright from the bike.
Wright succumbed to her injuries at the scene, and Kondash was transported to Kootenai Health for his injuries.
The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Jonathan A. Smith, was uninjured.
Both Kondash and Wright were wearing helmets on the motorcycle.
