U of I student senators call for firing of AD over mishandling of sexual misconduct case
MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho student senators have crafted a resolution calling for the firing of Athletics Director Rob Spear over his alleged mishandling of a sexual misconduct case.
Two student athletes made sexual assault and harassment allegations against Vandal football player Jahrie Level back in 2013.
University officials recently apologized for the mishandling of the case after the allegations came to light. Officials admit that university and federal rules were violated.
The Associated Students of the University of Idaho Senate will be discussing the resolution Wednesday night. It calls for President Chuck Staben to fire Spear. The resolution states that Spear’s failures include not reporting a sexual assault case, not offering university resources to the victim, and providing false policy information.
The resolution calls Spear’s actions “abhorrent and deplorable,” and finds him unfit to mentor college students. The resolution demands that President Staben asks for Spear’s immediate resignation and that the ASUI will not be satisfied with anything less.
The senators will also consider buying an ad in the student newspaper calling for Spear’s firing.
The items are set to be discussed during the ASUI Senate meeting which starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in the Whitewater Room of the Idaho Commons Building.
