Two people hit on Division this week prompt emphasis patrol
SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police will conduct a traffic emphasis on north Division Street tonight due to recent car vs pedestrian collisions this week.
Earlier this week, a man was killed on north Division while attempting to cross on a motorized bicycle. And this morning, just several blocks away from that collision, a woman attempting to cross Division was also hit. She is in critical condition at a local hospital.
Tonight, officers will be looking for people speeding, or driving aggressively or inattentively. Their goal is to contact as many drivers as possible and educate them about the dangers of their driving.
Police are hoping to not only reduce the number of auto vs pedestrian collisions, but of all collisions.
According to police, inattentive driving is one of the leading causes of accidents. Their goal is to get people to pay more attention to their driving and less attention to things like cell phones, radio stations or eating and driving.
Police also would like to remind people that the speed limit on Division through most of the city is 30 mph.
