Trooper shot in Walla Walla returning home to continue recovery

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — A Washington State Patrol trooper that was shot around two weeks ago is returning home to continue his recovery.

Trooper Dean Atkinson Jr. sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face and hand after being shot in Walla Walla on September 22. He was also rammed by a car. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

The trooper was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital before he was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
