Traffic stop lands convicted felon in jail
MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Moses Lake Police arrested a 27 year old man early Friday morning for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and driving with a suspended license.
Investigators say an officer stopped Giovanni Powell of Moses Lake for a traffic violation. According to police, the arresting officer was able to see the butt of a handgun protruding from under the driver’s seat of the vehicle, as well as a live round inside the vehicle.
Powell is a convicted felon.
The passenger in the vehicle, 19 year old Kayla Irizarry, of Moses Lake, was released from the scene.
Investigators said a search warrant was served on the vehicle, and a 1911-type pistol was located under the driver’s seat, as well as loaded magazine.
Officials said officers also located a purse that contained a small Derringer-type pistol, as well as Irizarry’s paperwork from the last time she was released from jail and heroin.
Irizarry is also a convicted felon and ineligible to possess a firearm.
Powell was booked into the jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and driving while suspended.
Officers are still attempting to re-locate Irizarry and arrest her on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of heroin charges.
