Traffic backed up along Walnut St. heading into downtown Spokane

Snowy and icy conditions caused back-ups and closures along Walnut St. heading into downtown Spokane Thursday morning.

The Spokane Police Department shut down part of Walnut near 5th Avenue because of several crashes and slide-offs. One of the minor accidents in the area involved a Spokane Police Department patrol car, according to officers on the scene.

The road was expected to reopen around 10:00 a.m.

A little further past Fifth and Walnut has been closer because of heavy ice covering the road. I’m told it’s about to open back up soon.

As you can see, sand trucks moving all over town to get these roads safer to drive on. @kxly4news pic.twitter.com/1JcnDxsKAE
