Touchmark ‘Parade of Cars’ celebration brings families together on Mother’s Day

SPOKANE, Wash. — Mother’s Day at Touchmark on South Hill may look different this year, but the love and appreciation of mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers will still be celebrated, although in a unique and safe way due to COVID-19.

The ‘Parade of Cars’—over 70 of them decorated—carried loved ones through the campus to visit with families and residents from a safe distance.

Touchmark said that the health and safety of residents was a top priority.

For this Mother’s Day celebration, the retirement home sent details about the event to family members and asked them to RSVP if they plan on participating. Many families decorated their cars to make the parade even more festive.

Touchmark residents were seated outside in chairs set at least six feet apart for physical distancing.

Like others practicing physical distancing, residents have been connecting virtually with loved ones for nearly two months. Residents and families alike are looking forward to making this Mother’s Day memorable with the Parade of Cars.
