Top gymnasts from around the western U.S. competing in Spokane this weekend
SPOKANE, Wash. — This weekend, some of the top gymnasts from the western United States will compete in downtown Spokane.
USA Gymnastics’ Level 9 Western Championships are being held at the Spokane Convention Center May 10-12.
Nadine Burgess, owner of Spokane Valley-based gymnastics center Spokane Gymnastics, is hosting the regional competition in partnership with the Spokane Sports Commission.
Competing will be between 450 and 500 level 9 gymnasts who are the top qualifiers from their states. Level 9 is the second-highest level in USA Gymnastics. The Eastern Championships will be taking place the same weekend in Florida.
The gymnasts are between the ages of ten and 18. They’ve been working toward this competition for most of their lives and many of them could be headed for collegiate gymnastics or even the Olympics one day.
Spokane hosted this event in 2015 and was chosen again this year because of the previous success.
Tickets to watch competition on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday can be purchased at convention center. A One Day Pass will cost $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 4-12. Children under three are free. An all-weekend pass will cost $50 for adults, $45 for children.
