Three people, four pets escape Sunday morning house fire in Otis Orchards

Around 9:30 Sunday morning, Spokane Valley firefighters responded to a home on fire in Otis Orchards.

A neighbor across the street noticed the fire and alerted the people who were in the home at the time. Three people and four pets were able to safely evacuate.

Firefighters found “a large column of smoke and flames” toward the back of the house, located near 2100 N. Powell Rd. They say the fire started on the back deck and spread into the second floor of the home.

Twelve units from three local fire agencies, including Spokane Valley, south Spokane county, and Kootenai county, all responded to help get the fire out.

The Red Cross has been called to help the people and their pets find a place to stay.
