Three children found uninjured in DUI crash near Five Mile

DUI crash in North Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Three children, ages 12, 8 and 5 months, were found unharmed in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a single vehicle crash on Five Mile Road and Ash Street. A witness remained on-scene and said a GMC Yukon had slid off the road into a power pole. After the collision, the driver started to walk away from the scene.

Officers made contact with 35-year-old Victoria N. Brown at the scene. Officers noticed a small bump on her head and was showing signs of being under the influence. Brown told police she was the driver of the vehicle.

About the same time, a Corporal arrived on-scene and made contact with the male, who matched the description given by the witness.  The male was identified as 39-year-old Shane T. Brown. The man was showing obvious signs of being under the influence and denied driving the vehicle and being at the collision scene.

After conducting an investigation, police determined that the man was in fact the driver. The woman was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Providing False Statements.

The man was also arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Felony Hit and Run, DUI and 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment. Brown had previous convictions for First Degree Child Molestation, Assault, Reckless Driving and Driving under the Influence.

The children were transported to the hospital and were placed into protective custody with CPS.
