‘This is going to be Sandy’s gift’: 4 News Now Extreme Team to build new library at Carl Maxey Center

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Extreme Team is ecstatic to announce its next project: building a new library at the Carl Maxey Center.

The new library was a vision of Sandy Williams, the center’s executive director, who was tragically killed in a seaplane crash earlier this month.

The project has been in the works for months but will come to fruition in October.

“I just want to make sure that the next steps that Sandy wanted are followed through on and they are happening quicker than we expected, so that’s all I wanted to see, that it’s still all happening,” said Jillisa Winkler with the Carl Maxey Center.

The Extreme Team has a blank slate. They will build a high-tech wall, new workstations and install a big screen TV for various programs and training.

There will also be a multi-use wall for artwork, a cupboard for storage and plenty of free books for children.

“This is going to be Sandy’s gift. This is what she wanted. All of this removed and she wanted a community patio. This is where people could come, share ideas and thoughts,” 4 News Now’s Mark Peterson said.

The Extreme Team will formally break ground on the project on October 10.
