The red wagon in Riverfront Park will get new paint, undergo minor repairs

SPOKANE, Wash. — The red wagon in Riverfront Park will have new paint and other minor repairs.

Work on Ken Spiering’s creation, “The Childhood Express,” is expected to begin on Tuesday, May 31, and go for about three weeks. The wagon will be closed during renovation, and its perimeter will be fenced off. Pathways around the wagon will remain primarily open.

Some of the repairs include stripping existing paint and rust, minor metal repairs and applying new primer and paint that matches the original color of the wagon.

It has not been repaired since its original construction almost 33 years ago.  Modern Construction and Consulting Services, LLC will be making the repairs.

It will cost about $73,000 to repair the wagon. Sherwin Williams donated the paint for the repair.
