The bank stabilization project at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in west Spokane that was started last year is nearly complete. The powerfull drive of Hangman Creek which runs through the 18 hole golf course was threatening to erode the banks and cause damage in three area.

Last fall crews began to strengthen the creek bank at the points of impact with large boulders to prevent the rushing water from undercutting the banks and washing more material away. Along with the rock, soil, fabric and native plants are also being used to stop further damage and erosion.

Several of the areas now fixed were damaged by ice and flooding during the winter of 2008/2009. All of the areas adjacent to the creek which were disturbed by the bank stabilization will seeded with a mix of plants suitable for erosion control.

For golfers, the fairway on Hole 1 is disrupted by a temporary fence line that surrounds an area that was used by crews to reach the work zones. As long as you don’t flub your tee, shot, you should be able to play right through.
