Officials investigating suspicious death in Yaak area

LIBBY, Mont. (AP) — The Lincoln County sheriff's office says it is investigating a suspicious death in extreme northwestern Montana.Sheriff Roby Bowe says the body of an Idaho man who had been reported missing was found on Monday in the Yaak area and was recovered with the help of a search and rescue team. The cause of death is being investigated and an autopsy was planned.The sheriff's office issued a statement Wednesday saying the man was reported missing on Monday.

Montana avalanche buries Idaho skier, killing him

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — An avalanche in southwestern Montana killed a skier over the weekend.Park County Sheriff Scott Hamilton says 55-year-old Christopher Peterson of Ketchum, Idaho, died. He was skiing with three other people Sunday when the slide buried him in 5 feet of snow near the base of a tree.Hamilton says probes and an avalanche transceiver helped find Peterson, and the other skiers dug him out within 15 to 20 minutes, but he couldn't be resuscitated.

Riverstone completes $1.8B buyout of Talen Energy

HELENA, Mont. (AP) ��� Riverstone Holdings LLC has completed its $1.8 billion purchase of Talen Energy Corp., the Pennsylvania company that is the operator and co-owner of Montana's Colstrip power plant.The private company announced the merger's completion on Tuesday.The Morning Call in Allentown, Pennsylvania, reports that Ralph Alexander will replace Paul Farr as Talen's president and CEO. The newspaper says Farr signed a $21 million severance agreement last year.

Idaho man missing after falling into Kootenai River

LIBBY, Mont. (AP) — A 41-year-old Idaho man is missing after falling into the Kootenai River in northwestern Montana.The Lincoln County sheriff's office says Trevor Applegate of Bonners Ferry fell into the water Tuesday evening near Kootenai Falls, which is between Libby and Troy.High water, freezing temperatures and icy river banks were hampering the search for Applegate.
