SVFD rescue two people tubing on Spokane River
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane Valley Fire Department rescued two people who were floating on the Spokane River near the Spokane Valley Mall Monday afternoon.
Arriving units saw two people sitting on a tree about 50 feet from shore. Spokane Valley Special Operations Team members launched four kayaks upstream from the victims, and were able to rescue them and bring them to the shore near Mirabeau Park.
The victims, neither of whom were injured, were a male and a female in their early 20s. They were not wearing personal floatation devices.
In light of this incident, SVFD is reminding people to always wear proper fitting personal life devices when out on the Spokane River, as the water is still moving fast and is very cold.
