Suspect in stabbing near Pasadena Park in custody
SPOKANE CO., Wash. — An argument quickly escalated at a residence near Pasadena Park on Friday, where a man is suspected of stabbing a man for perdiodically staying at his residence without paying rent.
Deputy Mark Gregory said a man was stabbed multiple times in the area of E. Upriver Dr. and N. Farr Rd. around 8:00 a.m.
Deputies arrived to find a man bleeding profusely from several stab wounds to his upper torso and neck.
According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, Jordan D. Knippling, 39, was arguing with the man over not paying rent and eating people’s food when the situation escalated. Knippling then fled the residence after hearing law enforcement had been called.
Knippling was found on the south side of the river in the east block of the Centennial Trail, after a search of the area by deputies. He was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives.
According to the Spokane Sheriff’s Office, Knippling had just been released from jail on April 28, following his first hearing for two felony charges of 3rd degree assault, during which he reportedly assaulted two Spokane Valley Hospital nurses.
During his interview, Knippling admitted that he suffers from schizophrenia, and that he was acting in self-defense at the time of the stabbing. He also informed detectives that the victim did not live at the residence, but stayed there periodically.
In a jailhouse interview with KXLY, Knippling said he threw the knife in the river, and admitted to stabbing his roommate but claimed it was in self-defense. Deputies said evidence at the scene does not support Knippling’s claim.
This is an active investigation.
