SPOKANE VA., Wash. — Spokane Valley Deputies arrested a suspect with an active felony warrant after he tried to escape from law enforcement and struck a deputy’s car.

Spokane Valley Detectives saw the man, later identified as 33-year-old Jeffrey E. Baumann, in a parking lot located on E Sprague Ave near S McDonald Road.

Baumann had an active felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and was previously trespassed from the property he was on.

Deputies observed Baumann drive out of the parking lot and stop at a red light. When deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop, Baumann pulled into a Denny’s parking lot.

When a deputy exited his car to confront Baumann, he took off, heading toward Pines Road. Luckily, another deputy was able to block off Baumann’s escape, and Baumann hit the deputy’s car.

After a brief shouting match, Baumann exited his car and walked toward a deputy with his hands down. The deputy then arrested Baumann and took him to the Spokane County Jail.

Baumann was issued criminal citations for second-degree trespassing, obstructing law enforcement, and making or possessing vehicle theft tools (shaved keys). He was booked into jail for his felony warrant.

On Tuesday, Spokane Valley detectives charged Baumann with several other crimes from separate investigations, including three counts of second-degree organized retail theft, four counts of third-degree theft, two counts of second-degree burglary, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Baumann remains in Spokane County Jail with his total bond set at $11,000.

On Thursday, detectives completed a search warrant of Baumann’s car and found items believed to be stolen from Nordstrom Rack and Wal-Mart. They also located small quantities of suspected heroin, Xanax, and psilocybin mushrooms.
