Students at Sacajawea Middle School honor local veterans ahead of Veteran’s Day
SPOKANE, Wash. — The students at Sacajawea Middle School got a head start honoring our veterans before the holiday next week.
In their homeroom classes , all 800 students wrote letters to local veterans who’ve served our country.
The school partnered with Fairchild Airforce Base, who will make sure the letters get delivered.
In Mr. Weed’s homeroom class, student leaders were given the special assignment of writing to those who are serving overseas right now.
Eighth grader Nathan Cochran said he wanted to offer encouragement to the officer he was writing to, as he would be away from his family during the holidays.
“You have provided me and our country countless freedoms, like going to school every day or freedom of religion. My life would be completely different if it wasn’t for you courageously fighting for us 24/7.”
Thursday the school will hold their veterans day convocation, where students can invite their family members who’ve served to attend, as a way to celebrate them.
