A student at Pasadena Park Elementary saw a firearm on his way to school Wednesday.

The student came across the gun about three blocks away from the school, near N. Vista Road and E. Wellesley Ave. He did not touch it and immediately reported the situation to his parents, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy with the Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and found a Glock 9mm handgun and two unloaded magazines nearby. The deputy determined the firearm had been there for a few hours and confiscated it.

The Sheriff’s Office checked the serial number and determined the firearm was not reported stolen.

Authorities at the school said the child did the right thing by alerting authorities.
