State watching voter registration in Whitman County
COLFAX, Wash. — State election officials are keeping an eye on the processing of voter registration forms in Whitman County, after Washington State University students recently turned in thousands of new applications.
The Washington Secretary of State’s office is working with the Whitman County auditor’s office to ensure ballots are issued on time.
The Spokesman Review reported that the auditor’s office had received complaints in recent elections about wrongly addressed ballots and information. That prompted dozens of residents last year to send a letter to the secretary of state’s office requesting the monitoring.
Auditor Eunice Coker says she has seen an influx of registrations from students this year.
Democrats are hoping that a flood of new voters on college campuses will play a role in the Nov. 6 midterms.
