Staff member stabbed at downtown Spokane warming center

Spokane police officers are responding to a stabbing at the Westminster Congressional Church, in downtown Spokane.

The church houses one of the city’s warming centers for the homeless. The Executive Director of the Guardian Foundation, which runs the center, confirms a female guest grew agitated as they closed for the morning and stabbed a worker in the neck with a pair of scissors.

The worker’s wound is said to be superficial, and he/she is doing okay.

The suspect was quickly taken into custody. She’s been charged with 1st degree assault.

About 10 officers responded to the church around 7:15 Wednesday morning. It’s located about a block away from Lewis & Clark High School, but the police activity is not impacting students’ ability to get to school. LCHS’s safety officer has been on the scene.
