SPS set to name three new schools in the district

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools is getting ready to name three new middle schools currently under construction, but they need the public’s input in helping decide what to call them. With these schools under construction, many of the potential names either have a connection to Spokane or the Pacific Northwest region.

It’s been narrowed down to three finalist names for each school.

The first school is the Northeast location located next to Gonzaga Prep:

  • Beacon Pines
  • Denny Yasuhara
  • Frances Scott

The next is the Northwest location which is across from Joe Albi Stadium:

  • Breckenridge
  • Pauline Flett
  • Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Finally, the Southside location which will go next to Mullan Road Elementary School:

  • Carla Peperzak
  • John Oakley
  • York

The school board will hold a public hearing during their meeting Wednesday evening to collect input on all the potential names.  They will then make the final name selection on May 26.
