PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State football will have a new, young offensive coordinator leading the team’s drives.
Ben Arbuckle, who spent his past two seasons coaching at Western Kentucky, will serve as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2023 season.
In Arbuckle’s first season with the Hilltoppers, they finished sixth in total offense (497.3 ypg) and 15th in scoring (36.4 ppg). WKU’s quarterback Austin Reed led the nation in passing yards with 4,746 and was third in passing touchdowns with 40.
“Through an extensive search, Ben stood out as the best fit for our program to help our offense reach new heights,” said WSU football head coach Jake Dickert. “The continuity in scheme and teaching of what our guys know as well as his track record for explosive passing offense fits the skill set of our returning players as well as an exciting brand of football to recruit too. His energy, passion and vision for WSU and what we can accomplish together here will have all Coug fans excited for the 2023 season. Looking forward to getting Ben and his family here in Pullman.”
Additionally, the Cougs also added edges coach Frank Maile, who spent his past two seasons as Boise State’s defensive line coach.
Maile led the Bronco’s defense, which finished ninth in the nation in total defense and 16th in scoring defense.
“I couldn’t’ be more excited to add Frank Maile to our staff as it was easy to see why Frank has been one of the most well-respected defensive line coaches in our region for a long time. I know he will have an immediate impact on all our Edges and possesses the ability to raise the level of play and will enhance our ability to rush the passer. Can’t wait to have Frank and his family here on the Palouse,” Dickert said.
The Cougs are now almost finished filling the gaps after losing their offensive and defensive coordinator after their season came to an end. Many of the Cougars’ top prospects left to the transfer portal as well, meaning Coach Dickert’s been busy recruiting throughout the offseason.
More additions are expected ahead of the start of the 2023 season.
