Ferenz Named Mid-Major Player Of The Week

MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho junior guard Mikayla Ferenz has been named the College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Women's Basketball Player of the Week the website announced on Monday. 

Ferenz, a Walla Walla, Wash., native, averaged 24.0 points per game last week, helping Idaho improve to 6-3 in the Big Sky. The Vandals' road sweep of Northern Colorado and North Dakota was just the second time a Big Sky team has gone 2-0 on that trip since 2012. 

Ferenz opened the week with 33 points in Idaho's 79-71 win at UNC. It was her fourth 33-point game of the season and her sixth 30-point effort of the year. She shot over 50 percent from the field (52.4) and went 6-of-9 (66.7) from beyond the arc. Ferenz added six rebounds and five assists. 

She concluded the week with a historic performance at North Dakota. Ferenz became the first Vandal since 1984 to record a triple-double. She put in 15 points and added career highs in rebounds (13) and assists (10), assisting Idaho to a 78-64 win over the Fighting Hawks. Her triple-double was the second in the Big Sky this season, but the first in conference play. 

On the week, Ferenz shot 45.5 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from 3-point range. She averaged 9.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game, playing in all 80 minutes for the Vandals. 

Nationally, Ferenz ranks eighth in scoring with 22.9 points per game. She is second in the NCAA in 3-point field goals (78) and 3's per game (3.90). She has totaled 458 total points this season, good for 11th in the NCAA.
