STANFORD, Calif. - The Huskies lost their footing in the Pac-12 North race Saturday after unranked Stanford defended their home turf for the sixth-straight year against the Dawgs with a 23-13 win California.
The Cardinal move to 2-2 with the win, while UW drops to 1-2 in conference play, tied for fifth with Cal.
Stanford slowed down the game, using runningback Cameron Scarlett, who rushed for a career-high 157 yards and a touchdown. Cardinal quarterback K.J. Costello is still injured, and Davis Mills went 21/30 for 293 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in his place.
UW lost the time of possession battle by 18 minutes, and Jacob Eason was limited to 16 of 36 throwing for 206 yards, one touchdown and an interception.
Washington plays at Arizona on Saturday before hosting No. 13 Oregon on October 19th.
