Spokane’s Runners Soul stores to close
SPOKANE, Wash. — A longtime Spokane business is closing its doors. Runners Soul is a specialty footwear store, targeted towards runners and joggers. The company opened its downtown location 20 years ago, the north Spokane location opened years after.
The owner of Runners Soul said it’s for a few reasons including an issue with street kids a couple years back. The store owner also said he’s getting older and it’s harder to keep up. He also noted the constant construction in downtown is really hard on business.
The first Runners Soul opened in 1999 in downtown Spokane. That area has developed changed greatly since then. River Park Square has developed and traffic has had its fair share of changes, too.
The owner said business has decreased over time because of these factors.
“I think eventually downtown is going to be gorgeous. But I don’t see it getting back to that glorious state that we had before for at least five, or six, or seven, or eight years – and I’m just too old,” siad Curt Kinghorn, owner of Runners Soul.
Both stores locations are closing, downtown and north Spokane.
The owner of runners soul says this store in downtown Spokane is expected to close this weekend. Then, they’ll move inventory over to the north Spokane location. That store will close shortly after, as well.
