Spokane woman rescued after being trapped in O’Sullivan Reservoir

Rescue crews found the 52-year-old woman clinging to a floating gas can, where she treaded water for three hours.

A 52-year-old Spokane woman was trapped and treading water in the O’Sullivan Reservoir for three hours on Saturday night.

The woman was clinging to a gas can before help arrived.

Grant County Sheriff’s Office sent boats, a drone, and the crew from Fire District 5 to search for her. They found her alive around 10:45 p.m., and transported her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She suffered from hypothermia and inhalation of gasoline fumes.

She was on a vessel with her 40-year-old companion when it sunk unexpectedly around 8 p.m. Her companion was able to put on a life vest and swim to safety along State Route 262.
