Spokane Valley detectives seek suspects in beating of El Salvadoran man

Detectives are searching for two suspects who severely beat an El Salvadoran man behind the New Life Church at 10920 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley.

At approximately 1:40 pm Wednesday deputies responded to a call of a half-dressed man lying unconscious behind the church. When they arrived they found the victim badly beaten bleeding from his face with blood all over the ground.

Due to the severity of the attack Major Crimes detectives were called in to investigate the assault. They determined the victim is from El Salvador, is in the United States on a valid passport, speaks little English, frequents the church and walks in the area.

Witnesses said they think they saw the victim behind the church with two white males who appeared to be transients around 12:15 pm. During the attack the suspects stole the victim’s pants, shoes and other personal items.

Six hours later a resident called authorities and reported finding clothes, identification and other personal items neatly piled at a residence in the 10800 block of E. Main. Authorities confirmed some of the items belonged to the victim while some did not. Everything was collected as evidence and the Spokane Valley Police Department released pictures of the items collected in the hope that someone might recognize the items and comes forward with information about the attack.

The victim was transported to the hospital with critical injuries and is now listed in serious but stable condition with severe facial fractures.

Anyone with information about this attack or the clothing found at the residence on E. Main is asked to call Detective Kirk Keyser at 509-477-6611.
