Spokane Urban Forestry to host weed party
SPOKANE, Wash. —
Grab your tools, communal garden lovers. Come Saturday, Spokane Urban Forestry is hosting a weed pulling party at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course.
According to Urban Forestry, invasive plants provide a major threat to Spokane’s natural areas.
Pulling weeds by hand is a great way to manage public land without the use of chemicals.
More than just a weed-pulling event, the day will also consist of a hike through the restoration of High Drive Park on the south hill bluff, led by Ruth Gifford, education specialist for the Noxious Weed Control Board. During the hike, Gifford will be open to discussion while providing weed-pulling instruction.
The event runs from 9-11 a.m., and the only items required are weeding tools and comfortable shoes.
